ABBADIA SAN GIORGIO

ABBADIA SAN GIORGIO is located in an enchanting fifteenth-century double cloister built by Franciscan friars in 1484. The upper portico of the property houses the guest rooms, while the lower portico comprises the common areas, the restaurant with views of the internal gardens, and original frescos depicting the life of St. Francis of Assisi. Welcoming and romantic, the rooms and suites feature original details and antiques mixed with contemporary appointments, resulting in a pleasing harmony between past and present. Nestled in the heart of the village of Moneglia, the hotel is surrounded by historical buildings, including the late-fourteenth-century San Giorgio church, as well as picturesque squares and a charming series of alleyways dotted with boutiques and restaurants. Moneglia, one of the most beautiful towns in Italy, has been awarded the European Blue Flag every year since 1990 for its crystalline waters and the quality of the services offered on its beaches, which are just a short walk from the hotel.

You can also relax by the onsite pool, sip a glass of wine accompanied by bruschetta and canapés on the porticos, enjoy a massage in your room, or take a yoga class in the garden. A hot and cold buffet of all organic items is served daily in the breakfast room. These items come from producers in the nearby Valle del Biologico di Varese, an agricultural region renowned for its adherence to organic principles, and include homemade jams, honey, marmalades made with lemons from Monterosso, sweets in the Ligurian tradition, scrambled eggs, and a variety of cheeses and salamis. Wine-tastings and cooking classes are also available onsite. Dinner is served once a week on Saturday evenings, a special event featuring classic Ligurian dishes. If you wish to further explore the region’s culinary traditions, Moneglia is home to a variety of cafés, pizzerias, trattorias, and fine dining restaurants.
